I've been visiting wool shop Wondoflex for a few years now, first starting out with buying felting supplies. Little did I know that all this time I have been ignorant of their sale room out the back. Open on Friday's and Saturday's they have quite a big range of wools with a lot of them from different places around the world.
So I poked around, willing to buy a few balls of something and then figure out what I wanted to make. So I found a few balls of Arte by Filtes from Italy.
I really need some beanies at the moment so I thought this would be perfect. Using the Meret pattern from Woolly Wormhead (also on Ravelry) that has been sitting in my To-Do pile, I started to knit and was a bit shocked at how "rainbow" the wool is. I'm not sure how I feel about wearing that much of the rainbow when my usual palette is limited to the tonal range of black. We'll see how it goes...
Just to be confusing for you, I usually have a number of small projects going at once. So when I update I'll try not to jump in between things too much.
First off, a few weekends ago creative soul sister Merrie (aka Mavis) and I (aka Birdie) went to the Bendigo Sheep and Wool Show, hence our new Nanna like names. Somewhat embarrased to admit it, we had a fantastic time! There was so much to see and we both learnt a lot about the animals, fibre processing, natural fibre dyeing (thanks to some of the ladies at the Spinners Guild of Pasco Vale) and met some really interesting crafts people. So we came home in the car tired, excited, full of ideas and bags full of goodies.
So the first thing that I was able to put on my To-Do list was to knit Merrie a neck warmer with some beautiful fibre she picked out from Ixchel. Most likely I could and will go on a bit more later about Charly McCafferty's fibres and how jealous I am of her fibre farm, but her products are amazing quality, beautifully spun, lovingly collected and all naturally dyed. The fibre that Merrie picked out was Handspun Yak, Alpaca and Angora Bunny.
Knitting this blend of fibres was beautiful, it's like it has its own little lovely personality and when you hold it, you really feel like your being loved, which sounds crazy. It's nice to think that people could feel the love that you put into the things you make.

Hey there! Welcome to everyone who's having a look at what I'm getting up to these days. This blog is mostly for old friends, new friends and family who want to check out what I'm creating. For me it's also a way for to keep a record of all my trials, crazy adventures/experiments and outcomes!
So eventually, when I organize myself better, the aim is to sell some of my stuff on Etsy.
In the past I have worked with many mediums but without a place to call my own (at the moment) I'm just focusing on Spinning, Dyeing and Knitting. This is more than enough at the moment though! So thanks for looking, and I'll be sharing some stuff soon xoxN
